We developed a custom integration that connects Google Speech-to-Text with Moodle essay-type questions. The client is a Japanese language instructor who wanted students to submit spoken answers instead of typed text. The system converts the audio into text, compares the result with the correct answer, and automatically grades the question based on the similarity score.
Students record their response directly inside an essay-type question.
Google Speech-to-Text API converts audio to text.
The system calculates the distance between the correct answer and the student’s response to generate an automatic grade.
Teachers can choose the output format:
Kanji–Kana
Romaji
Quiz attempt reports now include:
Transcribed text
Confidence score from Google API
Teachers can download student audio submissions individually or as a bulk download.
